Mindfulness Meditation Boosts Self-Compassion

Why is it that we will extend kindness to all those around us but, when it comes to ourselves, we can be so cruel? The causes of our self-loathing may be rooted in an abusive childhood or in traumatic experiences to which we have been subjected. Whatever the causes, one approach to increasing self-compassion is mindfulness meditation. A recent study in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found that there is indeed a strong relationship between talk therapy, mindful meditation, and the development of strong self-compassion. One caveat: These results were based on self-reported data so further study may be required.
