Neuroplasticity for Brain Health: How The Brain Works to Improve

Exercise is good for your brain, but what kind of exercise should you do? What effects do various types of exercise have on your brain? Researchers at the University of British Columbia recruited 86 women between 70 and 80 years old who suffered from mild cognitive impairment. The women were divided into three groups. Twice-weekly each group participated in a specific type of exercise: resistance training, aerobic training, and the control group did balance and tone training. At the beginning and end of the program the women were tested to measure their cognitive performance, balance and mobility, and cardiovascular capacity. After six months, both treatment groups saw improvement, but in different parts of their brains.
