Compassion Fatigue, Vicarious Trauma, or Burnout?

The Dalai Lama said, “In dealing with those who are undergoing great suffering, if you feel “burnout” setting in it is best, for the sake of everyone, to withdraw and restore yourself. The point is to have a long-term perspective.” There is a price to pay when dealing with those who have PTSD, and it is important that we monitor our own state of mental health in these situations. If you suffer from PTSD, you will need to watch for signs of burnout or compassion fatigue in your family and friends. If you are burning out, find support for yourself and/or those who support you.
